Packed full of detail, this brand-new mould includes closed or open canopy options, to reveal the detailed internal fuselage structure. The wings can be built with open or closed leading edge slats and dropped flaps. The undercarriage features covered or uncovered wheels, with optional bomb racks and full bomb load.

One of the more unusual aircraft to see action during the Second World War, the Lysander was designed to provide the British Army with a modern aircraft for reconnaissance, observation and artillery spotting. Possessing exceptional short take-off and landing capabilities, the Lysander was just what the Army were looking for.

Unfortunately, many of the design requirements incorporated into the aircraft were the result of outdated thinking. Of 175 Lysanders sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force, 118 would be lost, the aircraft unable to defend itself against Luftwaffe fighters.

History

Among the notable British aircraft developed after the Second World War, the English Electric Lightning stands out for its significant impact. Initially deployed to defend Britain’s V-Bomber bases from Soviet bomber threats, this supersonic marvel was epitomised by the Lightning F.6, which surpassed its predecessors with enhanced speed, range, and handling.

This extraordinary aircraft served the Royal Air Force for an impressive 28 years, navigating some of the most turbulent periods in global history. The F.6 model marked the reintroduction of guns, which had been omitted in the preceding F.3, complementing its pair of Red Top air-to-air missiles, much to the satisfaction of RAF pilots.

While the Lightning was renowned for its incredible speed, pilots believed it was capable of more than just defending points, demonstrating proficiency in dogfighting, provided its cannon armament was retained.

The Short Stirling was the first four-engined British heavy bomber of the Second World War. The design had high wing, four engines and the cabin elevated over the fuselage. The airframe was fully made in metal. Another features that characterised the bomber was the impressive size of the landing gears. The first bombers went to equip the Royal Air Force Bomber Command Squadrons from the end of 1940. The Operational status was reached on January 1941 and the first war mission was dated February 1941 against logistic installation in Rotterdam. Stirling Mk. I was able to carry a significant offensive load of over 6,000 Kg of bombs and was armed with eight 7.7 mm machine guns for defence. The direct successor of the Mk.I version was the Mk.III, fitted with new and improved Bristol Hercules XVI engines and enhanced defensive armaments.
